Acorus secured planning permission for a new grain store in the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – a landscape of remarkable beauty and heritage, with unique geological, ecological, and cultural character. The proposal replaces an existing fire-damaged and dilapidated building, which is currently next to productive farmland used for mixed combinable crops in traditional rotation. The existing structure is no longer fit for use and has become an eyesore on the landscape. The new barn will be slightly larger to meet the needs of modern agricultural vehicles and equipment, and is essential for day-to-day operations. At present, crops are taken directly off-site. However, with shifting weather conditions and market demands, the farm needs the flexibility to store grain on-site. This barn will provide the infrastructure to react quickly, store securely, and improve long-term sustainability. Designed by Acorus, the building reflects the Chiltern Design Guide, featuring black timber cladding and a brick plinth, helping it sit comfortably within this nationally important landscape.
