Babergh District Council commissioned Acorus to carry out a planning appraisal for an agricultural workers dwelling at a farm in their district.
The farm was a mixed arable and poultry unit. The free range egg laying building had capacity for up to 12,000 birds and at this level required full time labour input.
With a high standard of animal husbandry to keep and animal welfare issues to address, the need for round the clock supervision was clear.
There was no suitable alternative accommodation available with the existing farmhouse too far away to achieve the essential within ‘sight and sound’ need.
Financial statements showed there were sufficient funds to provide remuneration for a manager and to finance the new dwelling therefore Acorus concluded to Babergh District Council that the proposed dwelling met planning policy.
